The Begriddled Rules
The fundamental way you join numbers (or other characters) in any Begriddled puzzle is simple.
For puzzles made since May 2021, simply:
Ignoring any dots, join diagonally, vertically, and horizontally adjacent characters that are next to each other in the given sequence.
That’s it! You can splodge any dots in, if you like.
Original (Pre-May 2021) Rules
For puzzles made before May 2021, including those in my first two books, Begriddled! A New Kind of Puzzle and Begriddled! Logic (both available from Amazon – just search for Begriddled) the rules are:
- Dots are dots. Just splodge them in.
- Join up vertically and horizontally adjacent characters that are the same. But not dots.
- Join up characters that are adjacent in any direction and are next to each other in a sequence that is given or must be worked out.
The simplest sequence is 0 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 – 0.
Other sequences are in reality just as simple. They just appear less so at first and further obscure the solution to the human eye.
For example, these sequences work just as well:
- 5 – 7 – 2 – 1 – 6 – 8 – 9 – 3 – 0 – 4 – 5
- Q – W – E – R – T – Y – U – I – O – P – Q
- ♠ – ◊ – ∇ – ♥ – ♦ – Ω – ∅ – ♣ – Δ – ⊕ – ♠
